Day 61

Walking with Isaiah, Day 61: “The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me; because the LORD hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound; 2 To proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all that mourn; 3 To appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the LORD, that he might be glorified.”

This is our Lord Jesus Christ speaking through Isaiah, before He was made flesh (“And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us,…” - John 1:14.).

In yesterday’s walk, we saw Isaiah prophesying, speaking out God’s anointed Word by inspiration, this very event: “Arise, shine; for thy light is come, and the glory of the LORD is risen upon thee. 2 For, behold, the darkness shall cover the earth, and gross darkness the people: but the LORD shall arise upon thee, and his glory shall be seen upon thee.” - Isaiah 60:1-2.

When was this prophecy manifested?

“Now when all the people were baptized, it came to pass, that Jesus also being baptized, and praying, the heaven was opened, 22 And the Holy Ghost descended in a bodily shape like a dove upon him, and a voice came from heaven, which said, Thou art my beloved Son; in thee I am well pleased.” - Luke 3:21-22.

Immediately after our Lord Jesus arose out of the waters of John’s Baptism, the Spirit of the LORD, the Glory of the LORD, came upon Him and the LORD’S Glory was seen upon Him (“And John bare record, saying, I saw the Spirit descending from heaven like a dove, and it abode upon him. - John 1:32).

Luke 4:1 is the immediate continuation of Luke 3:22. “And Jesus being full of the Holy Ghost returned from Jordan, and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness,” - Luke 4:1.

According to the Word of God, what happened?  Jesus submitted Himself to the Holy Rite of Water Baptism, which represents spiritual death and being raised from that death to “walk in newness of life” (Romans 6:4).  Subsequent to our Lord arising out of the waters of John’s Baptism, the Glory of God, the Spirit of God, came upon Him (the Father anointed Him) and the Spirit filled Him. “And Jesus being full of the Holy Ghost…”

Peter bears witness of this Holy anointing and filling.

“That word, I say, ye know, which was published throughout all Judaea, and began from Galilee, after the baptism which John preached; 38 How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him.” - Acts 10:37-38.

Father anointed Jesus of Nazareth, after (subsequent to) the baptism which John preached, with the Holy Ghost and with power; and our Lord Jesus Christ went about doing the works that He had been empowered by the Spirit to do: “…healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him.”

“The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me; because the LORD hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound; 2 To proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all that mourn; 3 To appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the LORD, that he might be glorified.” - Isaiah 61:1-3.
